Title : I want return tickets to Thailand for $600
No. This is not a lucky draw or scam, this is the power of group buying! Airlines have been relying on travel agencies to bring in the numbers. It follows that a fair amount of the air ticket you pay has gone to travel agents. Even though airlines are now selling their own tickets online, airfares selling price still has to be controlled in order to protect the travel agencies’ interest.
Now, with the internet going mainstream, we can utilize the power of group buying to accumulate the numbers, skipping the agencies and negotiating directly with airlines. ( that is as much as we can reveal at this stage as negotiation is underway)
However, it is not all rosy at the moment. The airlines are still not that opened to using the concept of group buying and risk making their travel agents unhappy.
At Groupcow, our attitude is determined. This does not fall into our category as a good enough reason to give up our negotiation with the airlines and spread the benefits to public - a mission we are so dedicated to achieve everyday.
Prior to this event, we have tried accumulating the numbers for a $1000 flight to Tokyo. The event started off with a very good responds. Unfortunately, the Japan Earthquake came. With the radiation scare, we feel that it is going to take a while before the public feels safe to head to that part of the region.
We went back to the negotiation table again with the airlines and decided that Thailand or Singapore will be a good choice.
Again, in order for us to be able to succeed in this negotiation, we need to show the airlines the sheer number of our interested buyers. As we are not certain whether Thailand or Singapore will be a more preferred destination, we decided to start 2 events and let You decided. Whichever destination reaches the required number first will be the destination we finalise for our negotiation with the airlines.
